A really interesting speech. The religosity is obvious, but probably what's more telling is the strategic move to outflank the liberal left by portraying the anti-war position as isolationist. This goes back at least to the immediate pre-Iraq war period. What's also interesting, as usual, is what is missing from Bush's story of 20c US military history. What has to be omitted in order for the messianic narrative to work?
